Upendo Doula in Leiden

A Hypno-poop!💩 is it even a thing? 😂

The joys of weaning! Read on…

In my work as a Doula I support laboring womxn through the process of childbirth. Sometimes I am there just to be present and hold space, and sometimes I am there for the whole cuddling, holding hands, back massages and rubs, you name it

I decided to practice what I preach as a childbirth educator. Upright positions and motion help move things. Use gravity to your advantage! So the potty came to the rescue 😊

Yep! You guessed it right!! 😀

So when it was time to support my own little boy through a moment of constipation it came naturally. I found myself trying to distract him with play, songs and clapping, encouraging him to keep pushing.. holding him in complete distraught and panic…

When I was in Kenya in March, some of my family members encouraged me to let my son taste water. This way it won’t be strange for him who is exclusively breastfed! I wish I listened to them.. by the time we started offering water… he disliked it!

This serious face was accompanied with a panic wail and a lot of “mamamamamaaa” 😶

Back home my mum always said “hata choo kina raha yake” which almost translates to “even pooing has it’s own joy”

Her sentiments are right! 😂 The few days he couldn’t go, he was the most miserable, clingy and didn’t sleep much in the night either, which meant we were deflated as a family because our children usually sleep through the night!

There were loads of tears needing loads of cuddling and comforting 💫

All sorts of comfort measures including offering drinks was exercised through this 👌🏾💪🏾😊

Never knew pooping could be this cute? Me neither! 😂💩😂

My daughter exclaimed “mama.. that was definitely a hypno-poop! 😊. It took long but we all had to just wait, distract him through it, and encourage him to stay put on the potty 😊

Now apart from plenty of water, warm water every now and then and adding extra oil to his solids, I incorporate this 👆🏾 In his daily intake. It works wonders! 😊

These are some of the vegetables with pasta i have tried so far that he loves and they don’t bang him up (constipate him). He loves this mixture and therefore i make quite a bit of this to last a few days usually and otherwise i replace the pasta with Quinoa or brown rice for ‘roughage’. I am keeping meat away for a while while he tries to process all this then adding meat and fish gradually.

He still breastfeeds quite a bit and loves his last feed before bedtime too. So the extra good stuff mama eats! :-)

Plus this plum drink that can be diluted through the day helps a lot. I give my son a very weak mix twice a week.. it seems to be helping! For the rest I use loads of vegetables and fruits which have been God-send

Did your child suffer constipation too?

What did you use that helped?

How soon did it correct itself? I’d love to hear! 😊🙏🏾
