The Postpartum - A RITE of passage
In Africa as a continent, the Postpartum period is more than the typical 6-8 weeks we see in the western world. A world where the focus remains on the bump and and the concern still remains on the baby and not the mother, it is not a surprise that many even now in 2021 still don’t see or believe in the importance of rest and doing nothing in the first forty days
The postpartum period and the need to honor it is a topic I sing about in my clubhouse rooms every Mondays @ 21:00hrs GMT. Ancestrally it is a topic that is close to my heart because with the ‘trend’ currently where every one is a postpartum doula, the teachings and understanding of this RITE of passage has been revamped so many times that sometimes you walk into spaces and wonder ‘who told you that was how it was done?
This was a recording straight from my clubhouse room where many professionals (Birth) came on stage and shared. I host the rooms with Andrea Little Mason aka Dr Doula all the way in America because I have found our work ethics are so good but also she has been for a long time my cheerleader in the world of birth-work
The RITES of passages are celebrated for what they are, their meanings and also because mainly celebrations have been our ways of communicating, engaging, sharing and lifting each other up
No spoiler.. have a listen and please don’t forget to share, subscribe to the channel and review us so that we know the kind of content to create and bring out to you our listeners
As always, stay safe and until the next episode!
