What do I do as a Kraamzorg and as a Doula?

These two hats go hand in hand to some extent but it is not the intention that they get combined because they cannot for various reasons. The Doula packages for example are paid completely by the clients themselves. The sessions combined in this package are the standard 3. Plus x1 appointment to meet your care provider (midwife/gynecologist) and x1 appointment to be present when you are discussing your birth preference list or birth plan.

The Kraamzorg is a nationally arranged care that is covered mostly and completely by the insurance in the extensive Insurance package and then there is the €5,10/hour contribution fee that clients who have a basic insurance cover have to pay themselves. So these two cannot be classified or grouped as one. It is also not the intention

Where there is a difference is when there has been an agreement beforehand with a midwife that is looking after you to authorize for VIP hours. These hours are intended for birthing people who will benefit from Doula support and therefore the Doula will be present earlier (unlike the normal birth support usually during the pushing phase) to help you through the labour process, the birth and then the immediate 2 hours after birth to make sure things have started well: baby is latching and drinking, your womb is contracting like it should, you have peed and that sort of checks that are done after childbirth

Doula/Kraamzorg care

I have even more exciting news for my Kraamzorg/doula clients. Aside from being Spinning babies trained, I have been certified as a Body Ready Method Pro ™. I will therefore be very happy to offer stand-alone Body Ready Method ™ consultations or combined packages which will range between €1,250 and € 1,350 (VAT included)

Always email for clarification and if you have any questions on info@upendo-doula.com or Kareminaomie@gmail.com

Naomie enjoying a cuddle in full kraamzorg-mode

In the combined Doula and Kraamzorg package you will enjoy the benefit of having me completely throughout your pregnancy. We will prepare together, for the birth with some Birth preparation sessions in the comfort of your own home, knowing I will be there at the birth regardless of where you will give birth unless your birth becomes medical and then I will be present throughout for 8 days or otherwise, in your postpartum week/kraamtijd.

You will pay for your Doula package separately and the Kraamzorg, insurance will take care of it unless you have international insurance. If you have international insurance I will bill you for the Kraamzorg hours and then you can claim the costs back from your insurance

Body Ready works on Body balance to promote optimal space for your baby using Spinning Babies and the Body Ready Method ™. The whole assessment focuses on 5 pillars of BRM which are upper body movement, Movement patterns, Core, Pelvis, and the Pelvic floor. Booking the combined package will help ensure we can work on helping you to be ready optimally for birth and recovery

FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

Do your packages offer a payment plan?

Yes. For all of them. My packages include a plan of 2 payments. 75% on the date of signing the contract and 25% before or by week 37 except the first 2 packages that need to paid in full before we start working together

Payment should be paid up in full by week 37. As a rule, I do not attend a birth or postpartum appointment before the full payment is honored as I have to plan my household to be available to you.

I saw you offer belly binding. Do you only do home visits?

I offer Belly binding from the day you are comfortable. I have had mums who wanted to be bind from day 2 post-birth, so I visit at the hospital or at home. I come to you where you are at, from your birth room, kraam hotel and then at home. Ideally, the home visits should be within an hours travel distance otherwise I will charge for my transport fees to get to you

I started teaching how to bind from a distance too. You can purchase the binding tutorial and start enjoying the benefits of binding immediately you feel comfortable. Check the offerings list :-)

Do you only offer 3 appointments for Postpartum?

No. In my native country Kenya, postpartum care is 40 days. You can book me for 40 days too, 6 or 8 weeks. Then I offer a detailed package of what I would offer. The days I will make a meal for you, I will bill for the ingredients separately or the fee may be included in the package unless you already have the ingredients in your house. Whatever works best for you. This offer will have a payment plan of 75% paid on the day of the contract and the rest finished before we end the contract

Kraamzorg Extra: what is it and when can one book?

Many times after the kraamzorg has left is when life really begins. The postpartum tears come, the baby may loose weight, breastfeeding without support starts to become difficult. Kraamzorg extra is simply having me come and provide the same care out of your kraam/postpartum week. I am not your typical kraamzorg though so you are sure to be in for a treat with this one whilst you continue to adjust, recover in harmony as a family.

You can request me as a kraamzorg to continue out of the kraamweek with your family. Costs are €58/hour that you need to pay yourself. The minimum is 5 hours. For a total of 6 hours you will pay €290. This means you’ll get 6 hours of care hours for the price of 5

What is not included in your packages?

  • Travel costs if I have to get to you at night for the birth is not included

  • Travel costs further than an hour’s distance is not included. For all other travel needs, I will use public transport

  • As a business, I am obliged to charge BTW (TAX). This is 21% of total costs unless stated ‘included’. I offer payment plans to help you cover this

  • Belly Bind costs are as follows. If I lend it to you I charge per day. Otherwise, you can buy it to keep for good. I will liaise the price with you directly

Is there a timing when I can book you as a Doula?

It really depends on your comfort. I have had clients book me even before their first midwife appointments. Then I avail myself throughout your pregnancy and birth

When are you on call when we book a Doula Package?

I am on call for you from the moment you sign your contract, return it and pay your 75% deposit. Then I block your due date on my agenda and I do not take another client with your due date or closer to. Please note that I work with Back up Doulas who will attend 1 prenatal appointment with me so that they are not a stranger should they end up attending your birth, should life happen my end

When does your return of funds policy apply?

I refund all monies when there is a loss unless advised otherwise. In my practice I have a rule, I set aside x amount from paying clients for those who come my way needing the support without funds. Some of my clients who have gone on to lose their pregnancy have contributed towards this cause.

It is not obligated, it is a choice. I thank you in advance for helping me achieve this :-)
